5 Tips to Help Your Salesforce Lightning Conversion Go Smoothly

Salesforce Lightning is the product of a multi-year project to redesign the user interface customers have long complained about. But Lightning goes so much farther than just a cool interface. It promises to streamline the user experience to promote greater adoption, productivity and success.

In short, Lightning is a desktop experience that closely mirrors what users have come to expect of a mobile app. The navigation is sleek and intuitive. There’s also these great new features:

  • Activity Feed: Display to sales reps what just happened in an account and what to do next.
  • Contextual Hovers: See critical customer data without going to different pages in the application.
  • Opportunity Board: Drag-and-drop deals from stage to stage like digital sticky notes.
  • Customizable Dashboards: Dashboards are available with up to nine columns.
  • Customizable homepage: Choose the most valuable information to display to your users in their home screen (For example, prospect activity from Pardot)

Are You Lightning Ready? Here are 5 Things to Know:

1. You will control how users will move from “Salesforce Classic” UI to Lightning

You will have control over how your users are opted in – whether that’s one person at a time or subset of users. There will be plenty of documentation and resources to help educate your team on how to use the new tools.

2. You will need to test your VisualForce pages

You will need to test your VisualForce pages as you prepare for the Lightning launch. Sign up for pre-release access to learn how your VisualForce pages may be affected. Also work with Salesforce support and your implementation partner on issues you encounter.

3. You will need to support this new release more so than any other

As this UI is very different than the Salesforce Classic UI, you will need to work with your Center of Excellence or Steering Committee to determine your rollout strategy and execution, including educational resources required and customizations that can further optimize your solution and extend the value of Salesforce for your organization as a whole.

Users can create their own and share or leverage pre-built components in the Appexchange. Partners will also be using components to extend the value of their apps.
